Buoyed by healthy holiday sales, Windows 10 has now reached the 200-million-device-mark, Microsoft announced on Monday.
The firm said that enterprise interest in Windows 10 is growing too.
However, part of the appeal of the update is that it was made available for free for users of Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Microsoft also broke out more specific data about the time users spend in each app. Edge, the replacement for Internet Explorer, saw 44 billion minutes (733 million hours) of usage over the past month. In fact, none of the Windows Phone 8.1 devices have been updated to the stable build of Windows 10 Mobile yet.
Getting businesses to run Windows 10 is important to Microsoft for all sorts of reasons.
Microsoft’s CMO Chris Capossela hinted in an interview that there’s a killer smartphone in the works, and the company is hoping to grab some market share away from Apple and its ever successful, iPhone. It replaced Windows 8, the heavily criticized system dating from 2012. Figures for previous operating systems have been based mostly on licenses sold, not copies activated on devices by users. However, with 200 million Windows 10 users on PCs, Microsoft is looking good either way. “Overall, we are seeing significantly higher customer satisfaction with Windows 10 than any prior version of Windows”.
– The Cortana personal assistant has been asked more than 2.5 billion questions since launch.
Microsoft still has a large hill to climb with Windows 10 adoption.
In the past, whenever official Windows 10 numbers were reported, they were shared as how many installs had been done of the new operating system.
