Microsoft’s SIM Card Coming for Windows 10 Users

The company noted that in December, 60% of paying customers were new to its app store, and that in the same month Windows 10 devices spent 4.5 times more in the Windows Store than Windows 8 devices.

The company did not disclose in which markets it would sell the SIM card, though it said in information provided with the app that the service would be available in some markets and offers are for domestic plans only, with worldwide roaming offers to be available soon. By connecting to their Microsoft account, possibly through the app, users will pay for the service through the Microsoft Store. But we doubt Microsoft would release this app if they didn’t already have a SIM card in the works, and possibly, even ready for release. The plans will eventually be listed on the Windows Store in all places where cellular coverage is available.

Microsoft today has started to roll out Windows 10 Mobile Build 10586.63 to Insiders (Fast Ring).

The Cellular Data app allows users to connect to an “anywhere” network offering 3G, 4G, and LTE service. While Microsoft’s SIM card may not be a different size to the current Nano SIMs, it is created to allow Windows 10 devices to connect to multiple mobile network operators without a contract.

Microsoft has revealed what Windows 10 user activity is tracked via its new operating system (OS), Windows 10. Microsoft’s SIM cards will also be based on Transatel’s SIM 901 card. It’s not yet clear where this service will be offered, but it’s likely to be a US exclusive at launch.

The Cellular Data app makes a nice partner to the Microsoft Wi-Fi app that provides similar integrated payment for paid Wi-Fi hotspots. The catchily titled Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.63 is reported by a Microsoft employee on Reddit to included improved MS Band use with Cortana and turn by turn directions over Bluetooth while driving.
