Microsoft unveils fitness tracker; tablet, phones

Microsoft also revealed the release date and pricing for the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL smartphones. It is 8.4mm thick, features a 12.3-inch display and is said to be 30 per cent more powerful than the Surface 3. Microsoft also unveiled a virtual reality head set titled the HoloLens, a phone titled the Lumia 950, a tablet titled the Surface Pro 4 and a biometrics wristband titled the Band 2. So, just as we thought, Microsoft prepared a surprise for us. With Surface Book, Microsoft won’t be fighting against Dell, Lenovo, Asus, HP and others rather it has created a benchmark on which partner OEMs will develop their products. The industry rumors did miss that one and Surface Book was the big surprise of the Microsoft hardware event.

Microsoft Continuum lets users connect to a monitor through an adapter that allows a keyboard and mouse connection as well.

The Surface Book features a 13.5- inch, PixelSense display with 3000 x 2000 pixels resolution and a 267 ppi pixel density. That display is optically bonded to the glass, which means it should look good. “Now the question is will consumers buy the products”, said Daniel Ives, an analyst at FBR Capital Markets, who attended the event.

In terms of hardware specs, the Surface Book packs Intel’s latest Sky lake Core i5 and i7 processors; it includes a Nvidia GeForce GPU with GDDR5 memory.

The company believes its smartphone market share has nowhere to go but up, and after yesterday’s showing I’d say the same for the company as a whole. Microsoft is freaking a lot about the new keyboard of the Surface Pro.

The laptop starts at $1,499, compared with $899 for the new Surface Pro 4 tablet. Microsoft also announced a Windows 10 update for its Xbox One game console coming in November. The battery lasts 9 hours according to Microsoft. Both devices also feature a 20 megapixel rear camera, a five megapixel front camera, 32 GB of storage, Qi wireless charging and USB Type-C ports, making the phones compatible with future devices.

The Surface Book is Microsoft’s new high-performance laptop that can double as a tablet, catering to the booming hybrid device category – and if Apple can have a MacBook, why can’t Microsoft have a Surface Book?
