Microsoft has yet to make it official that they will be rolling out the latest addition to the Surface Pro series. However, it might come with either a 2K or a 4K Ultra HD resolution display – a mile wide difference from the 2,736 x 1,824 resolution display spec present in the current Pro products.

A collection of spec details over at Tech Times put the upcoming device at par with the current lines of premium productivity tools. Lastly, the device is rumored to house Intel’s new seventh-generation processor, Kaby Lake. However, the alleged new device is not poised for release until next year, that is according to an anonymous Microsoft employee.

News about Microsoft’s plans for the Microsoft Surface Pro and Microsoft Surface Book lines was intensified when the developer named Shubhan Chemburkar posted a photo of a wall from Microsoft’s building 88. A consumer version is said to contain 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, a prosumer version is said to come with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and the business variant will have 8GB of RAM and a staggering 512GB storage, according to Trusted Reviews. Graphics may also be powered either by AMD or the Nvidia Pascal GPU.

It is also anticipated to pack a hugely improved battery with USB-C support for charging, or even quick charging. Speculations also arise that the Surface devices might be deployed around the same time as Windows 10’s second major update in Spring 2017.

If the 2016 launch is chosen, we’d expect Microsoft to hold a hardware event in October to announce the release.

Will Microsoft hold out with the release of the Surface Pro 5 in order to wait for the Surface Book 2 and the Surface Phone? However, it is believed that Intel’s new processor pushed back the release to sometime next year. Thus, many Microsoft fans are speculating that the tech giant is gearing up for a Surface Phone unveiling soon, as well.
