Windows 7 and Windows 8 users have until 29 July to get a free upgrade to Windows 10. With its goal of reaching 1 billion devices, the tech giant has been generous enough to offer a free upgrade to Windows 10 for users of the firm’s older operating systems, Windows 7 and 8.1. And if yours isn’t among them, time is running out.

After that, it will be available pre-installed on new devices or for purchase separately, with a home computer version priced at $119, according to the Redmond, Washington-based company.

For Windows 10 users, Facebook is now one click away from their Start Menu, while the app will now start and load their News Feed faster than before. Here is how we see this all-important question of whether you should upgrade to Windows 10 or not. This app also automatically downloaded bits and pieces of Windows 10 on compatible devices without user permission, something that annoyed hundreds of users.

Microsoft announced the new install number on its Windows Blog, along with a number of other Windows-related stats.

Microsoft says that 300 million devices now run Windows 10. Only recently was Windows 10 caught red-handed installing itself during a popular Counter-Strike livestream. Firstly, everyone was expecting it to be called Windows 9, and, secondly, when Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s executive vice president of Operating Systems said the OS would be free for the “first year”, which left pretty much everyone wondering what that actually meant. The updates are free for all users. For example, did you know that people spent over 63 billion minutes on Microsoft Edge in March? So, the last date for free upgrade is nearing i.e. on July 29.
