Microsoft Windows 10 market share breaches 5% mark
“Microsoft recommends Microsoft Edge for Windows 10”, it says.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s new browser known as Edge is having a hard time finding usage despite being the default browser in Windows 10. Google displays the prompt without the user becoming active on its properties while Microsoft displays it only – and only once – when users search for Chrome or Firefox using Bing. Searching for Opera did not yield the same message.
It seems Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is losing the Internet browser war that it very much needed to win.
It also might be limited to certain countries like the USA, as searching for Chrome or Firefox in other countries did not yield the message either.

“Microsoft Edge was designed exclusively for Windows 10 with features and functionality that enhance the browsing experience such as Cortana, Web Note and Quick answers”, a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge.
In reality, there are several important features that are missing in Edge, even though it may look strong on paper. “That said, with Windows 10 you can easily choose the default browser and search engine of your choice”. One user of Google’s browser, as measured by Net Applications, who surfs to 10 pages would generate five times the usage on StatCounter than another user who surfed to only two pages with Edge. Although some see it as more anti-competitive action by Microsoft, others have interpreted it as desperation, showing that the company needs to reclaim the users it has lost since Internet Explorer’s peak. Microsoft isn’t in the same situation now, as Edge is hardly the giant that Internet Explorer was. The question that remains is what lies ahead for Edge?
