Middlesbrough win, West Ham edge Bournemouth

The Hammers secured a first Premier League win at their new stadium this weekend, with Michail Antonio scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Antonio headed the decisive goal with time running out to ensure the injury-hit Hammers won the Premier League game at their new London Stadium home.

It was a finely crafted goal, though, as Antonio rose at the far post to head in from close range after a lovely flighted cross from the left by Turkish global Gokhan Tore.

Burke has only featured in West Ham’s Europa League play-off first leg against Astra Giurgiu so far this season, but is expected to play in the second at the London Stadium on Thursday.

West Ham’s new home is the 55th ground to host Premier League action and the third largest with a capacity that can rise to 60,000 later this season.

The odds perhaps favoured Michail Antonio heading a late victor in the week he was derided by the shirt sponsor of West Ham United.

In the day’s early kick-off, newly-promoted Middlesbrough earned bragging rights over north-east rivals Sunderland in the first Wear-Tees derby for seven years courtesy of a memorable brace from Cristhian Stuani. “He went, and was one”.

There were six minutes left when Antonio punctured the tension at the London Stadium by settling a dreary contest with Eddie Howe’s disappointing Bournemouth, who collapsed after losing Harry Arter to a late red card.

“It was a tight game with few chances”, Bournemouth manager Howe told Sky Sports.

“So if you’re talking about creativity then we are okay, because nobody has five players like that”.

Steve Cook (Bournemouth defender): “There was not much in the game and we were looking strong, looking to get the victor”.

Sunderland replied through Patrick van Aanholt in the 71st minute, but Boro, promoted from the Championship in May, prevailed to record their first top-flight win over the Black Cats in over 10 years. “We need to be disciplined and keep 11 players on the pitch”.

“We are working really hard”.

“The Chairman is going to be very generous, I think, and we’re going to get one if we can find a proper one, but they’re very hard to find”.
