Millions of taxpayers who earned $53,267 or less a year ago may qualify for the tax credit for the first time in 2016, according to a news release. Are there certification courses you could be taking at the local community college or online?

“It’s very effective. It means that if somebody has your social security number, they can’t use it to file your return, because you’ve got your own special PIN”, Koskinen said.

“If Kentuckians receive these calls, hang up”.

So what has been the response of Congress? “The biggest problem is that the IRS came out so late with the form and what was going to be required to be reported”.

The frequency of these scams has been increasing lately due to people filing taxes, police said. “That’s the easiest way to deal with these scammers”.

But it is worse than that.

There was no way to ensure that the refund was sent to the taxpayer, said Valentine, who called for an earlier W-2 filing deadline. So what should you do?

United States Attorney G.F. Peterman, IIII announced that 37-year-old Michelle Simmons of Columbus and 36-year-old LaRae Townsend of Orlando, Florida each pled guilty Tuesday to one count of wire fraud, one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of filing false and fictitious claims.

Yet, this time of year is precisely when you really need to ramp up the protection of your identity.
