Mikaela Shiffrin wins Aspen World Cup slalom
And Shiffrin’s overall World Cup record makes for impressive reading despite being just 20 years old.

United States’ Mikaela Shiffrin speeds down the course during the women’s World Cup slalom ski race Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, in Aspen, Colo. “She has the support from the public and, yeah, she’s in another class”, said Strachova, who’s won slalom races on this course in 2008 and ’09. Aspen will host another slalom race Sunday and Shiffrin will be the overwhelming favorite.
No surprise Shiffrin races a lot like Schild.
“It wasn’t even really bumpy, so I’m kind of perplexed as to how that happened”, said Vonn, 31. “I was charging out of the start”. “I was nervous, but I still attacked”.
“I am going to move from today and focus on that”.
Mikaela Shiffrin celebrates her second win in two days at the Aspen Winternational.
Sunday, she said, is another day. “I love the hill for both GS and slalom”. “After the first two gates, I didn’t feel the nerves anymore”. She won by three seconds during a slalom race in 1968, according to information provided by the International Ski Federation.
Mikaela Shiffrin broke the global grip on ski racing in Aspen with a demonstrative victory Saturday in the World Cup slalom at Aspen Mountain.
The 1-2 finish of Shiffrin and Brignone after the first leg was the reverse of last month’s season-opening GS race in Soelden, Austria.
The second run is scheduled for 13:00 local time. Strachova was 2.9 seconds behind.
“It is just super annoying”, Vonn said. She has won the World Cup season slalom title the past three seasons.
Her plan was simple: Attack the course.
“It was pretty incredible”, Shiffrin said.
“(Shiffrin) was born and raised on this snow”, Hansdotter said.
Stiegler’s 10th place finish solidified her comeback, showing her hard work after a knee injury paid off. “It was cool to get in the gate and be that strong and solid”, said Stiegler after her run. “So I’m walking away from the US part of the World Cup tour very happy this year”.
She was 15th at the end of the day, moving up three spots from the first run. McKinney was on hand Saturday to congratulate Shiffrin. Aspen will host another slalom race Sunday and Shiffrin will be the overwhelming favorite.
After posting the fastest first giant slalom run, she was leading the race when she slipped down just two gates from the finish line. On Sunday, she dominated the field, taking another win in slalom.

American Paula Moltzan of Minnesota completed the first run Sunday but didn’t advance to the 30-skier second run.
