Mike Ditka: Jon Gruden faces ‘helluva challenge’ with Oakland Raiders
Or the guy that’s never developed a quarterback, is irritating to everyone around him and only won a Super Bowl because someone gave him a great defense and he played against THE TEAM HE JUST COACHED?

It didn’t take too long for Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden to get reacquainted with the rivalry involving his team and the Kansas City Chiefs. Gruden was officially announced as the 21st head coach in the history of the Raiders, 17 years after his reign as No. 12 came to an abrupt end.
Gruden’s 10-year, $100 million contract is the richest in National Football League coaching history and matches Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson (both with the Cowboys) for the longest, the Times reported.
Just like when he hired Hayward native Jack Del Rio to coach, and then brought back Oakland’s own Marshawn Lynch to play running back last season, Davis is betting a splashy hire that harkens back to the glory days will keep Raider Nation on board, even as he starts packing the moving trucks.
It’s been awhile since Gruden has been on the sidelines, but there’s no doubt that he is still one of the top coaching minds in the NFL.
Oakland finished 8-8 in each of Gruden’s first two seasons as a head coach.
Gruden will be formally introduced at a news conference Tuesday.
Much like he met with Carr during the Gruden QB Camp prior to the NFL Draft, the feeling Gruden has for the 26-year-old ex-Fresno State star hasn’t changed. “I feel there’s unfinished business”.
“I saw Charles Woodson – Brady fumbled that ball”.
The Raiders have put together some info on their new coach.
Consider this: When Gruden first came to Oakland, he had to revive the career of journeyman quarterback, Rich Gannon. On Tuesday, Davis finally landed his elusive fish. “He coached with me in Tampa and he coached with Sean McVay, one of my ex-assistants in L.A., so the system of football that we run there will be a real natural flow”. I’m just ready to go.
As Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have shown, a quarterback and head coach doesn’t necessarily have to be the best of friends to be successful. I’ve felt, as I said, for six years that Jon Gruden is the person I want to lead this team.
PUTTING IT IN CONTEXT: ESPN’s Chris Mortensen referred to Gruden’s contract and said, “Some people say, ‘$100 million, 10 years”. He was at ESPN ever since, forever flirting with the possibility of a return. I get excited when we make a first down.

Gruden did not elaborate on whether he had final say in personnel decisions but said he would work closely with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie. “So I’m anxious to sit down with Marshawn and meet with him and talk about his future with the Raiders”. “I’m going to do everything I can – no guarantees, no promises – but I want to win”.
