London isn’t the only former head coach to join the Terrapins in the last few days.
London and Shafer have a combined 52 years of coaching experience, including 11 years as head coaches.
Former Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer will be Maryland’s defensive coordinator, while former Virginia coach Mike London will be the Terps’ associate head coach and defensive line coach.

Shafer is a former coach at Syracuse, where he went 14-23 in three seasons before he was sacked in November.
Now comes London, who also carries a defensive backgrounds and alike Abdul-Rahim has deep recruiting ties to the Washington area.
London led Virginia to an 8-5 season in 2011 and was named ACC Coach of the Year. Durkin has also added Alabama assistant Aazar-Abdul Rahim as his defensive backs coach. He previously had stints as a defensive coordinator at Michigan, Stanford, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
College sports reporter Pete Thamel cites a source in a story posted on Tuesday, saying the hire will unite Shafer with head coach DJ Durkin. Prior to that stop, London coached the defensive line at Virginia (2001-2004), Boston College (1997-2000) and William & Mary (1991-1994). He played one season for the Dallas Cowboys.
