While Pence is viewed as a leading candidate, Trump is considering several others as well, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Speculation about who Donald Trump will choose as his running mate continues as he heads to IN this week for a fundraiser and public rally.

Pence backed Ted Cruz over Donald Trump in the in primary, which emerged as a must-win for the Texas Senator and there were reports that Pence told friends privately that he “loathed Trump”.

Mike Pence on Tuesday evening, the latest in a series of public auditions as the billionaire businessman mulls his vice presidential pick.

He told reporters Monday he’s prepared to make the case for Trump anywhere across the country.

Adding Pence, 57, to the Republican ticket could add some message discipline to Trump’s whipsawing campaign.

“If the Republican Party doesn’t want to lose another presidential race.they need to check their egos, and they need to get on board”, he said.

The Trump fundraiser is in Indianapolis, followed by the rally in Westfield, Ind.

“Tearing apart different communities in the United States Pence does that in IN we don’t need two of the same”, says resident, Portia Adams. Another bookie, British-based Ladbrokes.com, puts the odds on Pence joining Trump at 4 to 5, that’s about $1.60 for a $2 bet. At the risk of sounding like knee-jerk cheerleaders for the favorite-son candidate, we think Pence would be a good choice because he complements Trump in so many ways.

But there wasn’t a lot of talk about Mike Pence.

A Trump rally is set for the Grand Park Events Center in Westfield where supporters are anxious to find out if there will be a VP announcement.

In some ways, the tough-talking general could make an ideal running mate for Trump. “I think it’s what is needed in the ticket”, said Noel.

I arrive at this conclusion by discarding all of the chatter except the list of people who are known to have gone through the vetting process – while Trump is a wild card, I do not believe he will select someone whom his campaign has not researched at all. What began a few weeks ago as an endless list of possibilities has come down through attrition (mostly because of potential candidates saying no thank you) to a handful of potential vice presidential choices. With the exception of Senator Susan Collins, who nearly certainly will be hiding out in a cave this week if she thinks Trump is seriously considering her, every potential pick brings more baggage to the table than they do political advantage.
