Mike Pence tries to woo wary Republicans in Wisconsin

Indiana’s reshuffled campaign for governor has a new look since Republican leaders have replaced Gov. Mike Pence on the November ballot with his move to the national stage as Donald Trump’s running mate.

The Indiana governor will be in Grand Rapids earlier in the day on Thursday for a town hall event.

“The particular group that votes, Holcomb was the natural choice, and then add that to the fact he is the Lt. governor, and the continuity, I’m not surprised at all”, said Fort Wayne City Council President Russ Jehl. “We are chomping at the bit, ready to go”.

Holcomb ducked questions about LGBT rights on Tuesday and declined to say if he would support a “truce on social issues” once advocated by Daniels, his former boss.

Gov. Pence says Donald Trump will support law enforcement and appoint conservative Supreme Court Justices.

“We’ll raise the millions it’ll take to get the message out over the next 100 days”, said Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb, the new Republican nominee for governor. Joining him was Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a former rival and recent Trump convert, who campaigned for Cruz ahead of the April primary. Dan Coats, R-Ind., and past state GOP chairman, is having a heck of a year.

“When Donald Trump and I talked about where I would head first, we both talked about Wisconsin”, Pence said.

Holcomb is a former state Republican chairman whom Pence appointed Holcomb to the state’s No. 2 office in March after his 2012 running mate resigned.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the final vote was extremely close between Holcomb and Brooks, and three ballots were required before Holcomb reached a majority.

Holcomb beat out Congresswoman Susan Brooks from the Indianapolis area and Congressman Todd Rokita from north central Indiana. I love him. Where is he?

“Holcomb is still going to be the favorite in this race. We are unified, because we can not go backwards as a state”, Rokita said.

As Holcomb was announced as the Republican Party’s candidate for governor, he discussed what he’s looking for in a partner on the ticket. Democrat John Gregg might need to refocus a campaign that was shaping up as a referendum on Pence. For too many Hoosier families, wages aren’t keeping up and the good paying jobs we are losing aren’t being replaced.
