Mike Pettine: Russell Wilson not elite

When asked whether she thinks that the Seahawks quarterback might pop the question next year, Ciara said that everything happens at the right time. Forget the recent four-game stretch that have been met with 16 passing touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 145.9 (the highest-possible rating in the National Football League is 158.3). Wilson is producing a career year, adding to what is already an impressive resume during his four seasons in the league.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday about Sunday’s Browns-Seahawks matchup, Pettine very subtly channeled his inner Lloyd Bentsen when assessing where Wilson stands in the hierarchy of today’s top quarterbacks. “Would you put him up there with the guys that can transcend their supporting cast”, Pettine asked, mentioning New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Green Bay Packers signal caller Aaron Rodgers, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“It’s not my job to rank quarterbacks, and I know the bottom line for those guys, and he’s said it himself, is to win football games”, Pettine said on SiriusXM.

Still, Pettine had plenty of praise for Wilson as well. “I think communication has improved, but I think they’ve also gotten better playing together as those five guys”.

Wilson is simply riding the wave.

Well the former Colorado Rockies farmhand has been to the last two Super Bowls, and is a Pete Carrol bad play call away form being a two-time champ. With Thomas Rawls sidelined for the season, per the team’s website, we now turn to Bryce Brown and Christine Michael, newly signed by the team, per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, as the next options for what has proven to be a productive running game in this era of success in Seattle. However, if he was throwing interceptions and mismanaging the offense, he wouldn’t be starting.

Pettine’s lighthearted came after his comments about Wilson received attention Wednesday.

Are Ciara and Russell Wilson headed to the alter?

Winning the division is probably unrealistic at this point, but when looking at their remaining schedule, it’s not far fetched to believe they can win out heading into the playoffs. The official Browns transcript they posted on the team’s website, casually omits the word ‘no.’ It might not be much, but it could be the Browns trying to spin Pett’s words a little, make of it what you please. The Browns are fresh off snapping a seven-game skid with last week’s 24-10 win over San Francisco in Johnny Manziel’s return under center.
