Mike Pompeo unsure over US-North Korea summit Video
US President Donald Trump confirmed that his Singapore Summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would take place on June 12, and said it would begin the process of denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

“We also cheer the summits that have already taken place between Pyongyang and Seoul, and the next planned summit between the leaders of North Korea and USA”, said Lavrov, on his first visit to the North since 2009.
“We will hold discussions with the North so that we can implement the agreements between the two leaders with pace and without hitches and also create a positive atmosphere for the leaders’ summit between North Korea and the United States”, Seoul’s Unification Minister Cho Myoung Gyon told reporters before the meeting.
Trump’s meeting with Kim Yong Chol and other North Korean officials lasted around an hour and 20 minutes.
North Korea poses a major threat with the nuclear devices as well as missiles capable of reaching the United States mainland that it has developed.
Trump also added that expected very positive results from North Korea. Japan’s defense chief urged caution in dealing with North Korea, while his South Korean counterpart said there was no reason to question the North Korean leader’s sincerity.
When they emerged, Trump shook Kim’s hand before seeing him off in a black United States government SUV.
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said US officials “expect” the nuclear talks to happen in mid-June after Trump canceled the summit seven days ago.
Defense ministers from Japan and South Korea offered very different views of the North Korean leader at an global security conference in Singapore. The president later called it a get-to-know-you-plus meeting.
“I look forward to the day where I can take the sanctions off”, Trump said.
“We believe it is very important to treat these contacts in a very delicate manner, not to make any abrupt movements, to artificially speed up the process that requires a significant amount of time”, Lavrov said, according to a transcript released by the Russian foreign ministry.
Libya pursued its weapons of mass destruction programs enthusiastically but ineffectually for years, and when it finally succumbed to the pressure of Western sanctions it was still far from becoming a nuclear power.
Kim Yong Chol delivered a letter from the North Korean leader to Trump. “We’re getting along. You see the relationship”.
The photo made rounds on social media, where theories abound about why Kim would have sent Trump what seemed like a comically oversized letter.
Song Young-moo says, “Just because we have been tricked by North Korea in the past doesn’t guarantee that we will be tricked in the future”. He said it “went very well”.
Gen Kim was accused of masterminding attacks on the South Korean warship Cheonan and Yeonpyeong Island in 2010.
North Korea’s flurry of diplomatic activity following an increase in nuclear weapons and missile tests in 2017 suggests that Mr Kim is eager for sanctions relief to build his economy and for the worldwide legitimacy a summit with Mr Trump would provide. Disputes between Washington and Pyongyang led Trump to cancel the meeting, only to see a renewal of diplomatic efforts in recent days. I know they want to do that. “There remains a great deal of work to do”, Pompeo said, citing ongoing talks in Singapore and in the demilitarised zone on the Korean border.
“I could be in for a big surprise, folks”, he said with a smile.
“I was very much looking forward to being there with you”, Trump wrote.
TRUMP: We did discuss that, the ending of the Korean War.
That concerns analysts such as Snyder, who said that “many people were hoping the administration would continue the talks after tangible steps in the direction of denuclearization”. On Thursday the White House described the envelope as sealed.

The understanding among the U.S. officials is the letter is generally positive and a step in the right direction toward a meeting between Kim and Trump.
