Mike Zimmer tells radio show that Peterson has torn meniscus
Earlier in the day, we let you know that Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson was going to have surgery on his torn meniscus, a procedure that could put him on injured reserve and cost him the remainder of the 2016 season.

With both coming off fantastic 2015 seasons and being productive at a position where few are reliable for fantasy anymore, many players have staked their entire seasons into both Peterson and Woodhead.
Peterson has rushed for just 50 yards on 31 carries in the first two weeks.
Minnesota travels on the road to play the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. McKinnon and Asiata combined to run for 1,108 yards in 2014.
As for Woodhead, Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk was one of the first to officially confirm the report that the former undrafted running back had torn his ACL.
“I have a lot of confidence in those two guys”, coach Mike Zimmer said of McKinnon and Asiata.
After the victory, Zimmer told reporters that Peterson “might miss a week”.
In 2014, the same year Peterson missed the majority of the season due to a child abuse scandal, Woodhead suffered a broken fibula but returned last year with a career-high 80 catches.
“His heel got kind of planted and the guy hit him from the side a little bit”, Zimmer said. He said Monday he planned to reach out to the running back.
Regardless of how long Peterson is out, defensive end and fellow team captain Brian Robison said the Vikings must be prepared to move on.
“You see hope in some plays, and in others, we just shoot ourselves in the foot and give up a sack or do something stupid”, Boone said.
And McCarthy said the improvements that are needed on offense started right away Monday, when the players came back to work for video review of the game.
Zimmer has talked about how resilient the Vikings have been since Bridgewater’s injury.
“We’re not going to overreact”, Rodgers said. “It’s just one of those things where we’re so close, but I’m so sick of hearing that and so sick and exhausted of everybody talking about it, that we need to get it fixed, because we’re going to play a really tough team this week”.
