Mike Zimmer to discuss playing in preseason with Adrian Peterson

Marshall Faulk, who won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, said he think Peterson doesn’t even need more seasons to prove himself, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer-Press.

Peterson, 31, hasn’t appeared in a preseason game in three years and hasn’t taken an exhibition carry in five years.

The last time Adrian Peterson took a handoff in a preseason game was in 2011. If he goes in there, he’s probably not going to get one pass and out. “So he’s going to play (for a longer period of time if he does play)”.

Viking Update notes that if Peterson were to play in a preseason game, it most likely would come during the Vikings third exhibition contest.

Zimmer said he has discussed the possibility of playing in the preseason with Peterson, but reiterated he hadn’t settled on anything with his running back. While it makes flawless sense given the short lifespan at the position and the increased potential for a devastating injury, Zimmer at least seems remotely interested in seeing his offensive centerpiece against another opponent before their season opener on September 11. That return to summer football didn’t come in the Vikings’ opener and Zimmer said Monday that the call about whether it will change in the weeks to come will be made after a conversation with the running back. “I felt like we were figuring things out a little bit at the beginning of the year, especially offensively with that whole dynamic”.
