Mikel Hopes Chelsea Takes Advantage of PSG at Stamford Bridge

Midfielder John Obi Mikel equalised when he managed to convert a Willian corner at the Parc des Princes just before the break.

It’s ended at the right time as the Champions League restarts this week, with the Blues traveling to face Paris Saint-Germain after their biggest league win this season, a 5-1 drubbing of Newcastle. We thrive on responsibility but do it in a very relaxed way, which is sometimes what players need. Guus has come in and done that. “I think we put on a very good performance”, he continued.

“We’ve been through a hard period, no doubt about it, but Guus has come in and settled the ship”. For us here, we try to do our best in every game so that when the Champions League games come around things go as well as possible. There isn’t a heck of a lot left for Chelsea to play for this year, but it can still work its way into European competition next year by winning the FA Cup.

“I’ve seen them all”, Mikel said, referring to Chelsea’s lengthy list of managers in the Roman Abramovich era. Gary Cahill is probably going to start and John Terry is questionable. Staying in the tie in leg 1 will be an aim and obviously adding the often necessary away goal or two is key.

Despite having been as prolific in front of goal as he’s been throughout his career, Ibrahimovic remains a player whose ability to make an impact in big games gets called into question.

“We know what we have to do now and we’re more confident at home”.

While Spurs and Arsenal are chasing a league-and-cup double, with both teams trailing Premier League leaders Leicester City by two points, Manchester United’s chances of landing any domestic silverware lie exclusively with the FA Cup.

PSG have won 22 out of their 26 games in Ligue 1, drawing the other four.

“It’s disappointing at the end because I thought we defended throughout the game really well and we dug in”.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Motta has described Blues star Diego Costa as “a insane person” only able to distract players if they talk to him.

Ivanovic sang a similar tune, emphasising that they would be ready during the second leg: “We switch off concentration one tiny bit, and Paris have top strikers”.
