Nigeria won the football gold at the Atlanta’ 96 edition of the Olympic Games, the first African nation to achieve the feat.

Mikel, who is also the U-23 team captain, maintained his stance of picking a medal before returning to join his English Premier League side Chelsea.

“I want to implore the players not to get carried away by the result because they have a tougher assignment against Germany which they must be prepared for while the coaches too must do their part to make qualification for the final possible”, he said.

Meanwhile, the other semifinal tie between Brazil and Honduras at the famous Maracana stadium will be officiated by Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan – he will be assisted by Octavian Sovre and Sebastian Gheorghe while Saudi Arabian Fahad Al Mirdasi serves as the fourth.

The Dream Team VI advanced to the semi-final courtesy their 2-0 victory against Denmark in Salvador. Germany has the competition’s best attack with 19 goals.

On a personal note, Siasia will aim to equal his record of playing in the Olympics final after losing the final match to Argentina in Beijing 2008.
