The studio is aiming to release Ascendant as a television movie that will wrap up the current story arc and introduce new characters, hopefully leading to a spinoff series set in the world of Divergent. Reports of the latest movie in the series was underwhelming with only $66 million in domestic grosses and $113 million internationally.
[We] got excited about the possibility of what the series could look like- resolving the novel in a season across 10 to 13 episodes, and then expanding from there into multiple seasons. Series star Shailene Woodley found out about it when it was announced via the press, just like every one else. Despite the cancelation of the “Divergent: Ascendant” movie, there is nothing officially revealed about the fate of Theo James and Shailene Woodley in the movie and how the last installment will go on TV.
“It caught us all by surprise”, Miles confessed to The Hollywood Reporter about Lionsgate chiefs’ TV plans, which have yet to be confirmed.
According to Deadline, “Lionsgate will begin to present about 12 interested networks with the opportunity to pick up the series”.
Lionsgate reportedly withdrew the plan for a theatrical release in 2017 for a TV series.
The upcoming Divergent TV spinoff is already attracting many potential buyers.
Honestly, we don’t think Teller will be returning.
On the other hand, actor Miles Teller claimed that production has not contacted him about any offers.

It seems like there are still a lot of decisions to be made about the “Divergent: Ascendant” to be moved from theaters to TV. The one certainty here is that that’s not going to happen, though. CEO Jon Feltheimer regarded the collaboration as the biggest acquisition in its history with a plan to spend almost $1 billion a year on new TV series.
