Miles vows to do his job

TALLAHASSEE | Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher refused to comment on reports that he may be offered the coaching job at LSU if Les Miles is fired. The Tigers have lost three straight for the first time since 1999, dropping those consecutive contests by a combined 55 points.

“I don’t want to go there”, Miles said.

Memo to you SEC snobs: The Florida State job is better than the jobs at either LSU or Georgia. “I have a policy: I don’t speak about jobs, that’s unfair to the players that are there, the players that are here and the coaches here and there”.

If LSU loses to Texas A&M, the Tigers will finish 4-4 in the SEC for a second straight season. “When I heard we had the chance to wear all black I jumped at it, especially with it being the last home game and that there would be lots of pictures taken”.

“The information that I have is, do your job as you would do it”, Miles said.

Throw in the openings at Southern Cal, Miami, (Texas???), South Carolina, Virginia Tech, et.al., and you have some major programs searching for coaches to lead them to the College Football Playoffs.

LSU’s Tiger Athletic Foundation, the program’s booster club, are the group that will privately fund the buyout to Miles.

When Ole Miss wide receiver Evan Engram took a screen pass from his quarterback Chad Kelly and ran into the LSU endzone to make the score an embarrassing 38-17 last night, the Les Miles may have come to a devastating end. If this search gets to Mullen, it’s hard to see it going beyond him. “LSU has been, always will be about the team”.

“Just want to get me out of the way as best I can”, Miles said in reference to himself as a topic as he opened his press luncheon.

“It’s also the comparison to Alabama and Nick Saban”.

While, buying out a coach’s contract is common at big schools that are disappointed in the football team’s results, the size of this buyout is a bit shocking. Could a return to Baton Rouge be in store for Fisher?

Miles and his staff, meanwhile, now have the No. 1 class in the 2016 ESPN RecruitingNation rankings, with 19 commitments.

Fisher may be able to replicate Miles’ record at LSU and have similar success, but if it’s only going to be similar, why make the change for change’s sake when he’s at a premium job already at Florida State?

Yes, an uncomfortable feeling – to say the least – dawned upon me when the man I’ve worked closely with for over 10 years walked from the podium to Michael Bonnette’s (LSU SID) office.
