Militants Attack Police Post in Kashmir

A policeman was killed after suspected militants attacked a police post guarding a shrine at Tujer Sharief in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

Police said that the unidentified gunmen attacked two police cops at Tujjar village, eight kilometers away from Sopore town.

The said civilian, whose name was Abdul Rahim Lone, was standing near the shrine when he was hit by terrorists bullet. A wheelchair bound civilian present at the spot was also killed. Both claim it in its entirety and have fought two wars over the region since they won independence from Britain in 1947.

The assailants also decamped with the service rifle (INSAS) of the deceased cop. This is the first major militant attack in the area, after a series of civilian killings by terrorists in May and June.

According to sources, some educated young boys from South Kashmir has joined militants.
