The NDA high command is restating our commitment to attack the interest of oil corporation and global refineries operators that bring in vessels to the Niger delta territory to buy our oil that every successive government have refused to used and reapply the proceeds towards any development in the region since 1958.
Militant groups in the oil-rich Niger Delta region took hold in the early 2000s following the deterioration of people’s living conditions blamed on the increase of oil-related activities by foreign exploration corporations.
Nigeria was long Africa’s biggest oil producer until the wave of attacks by the Avengers pushed it into second place, behind Angola, in recent weeks.
The NDA had claimed responsibilities for the bombing of oil facilities in the region and Tompolo had been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption.
These oil pipeline attacks come in the wake of the Niger Delta Avengers, which are fighting for independence.
The militant group said in a Twitter post on Tuesday that it had blown up Chevron’s RMP 20 well located next to the Dibbi flow station early Wednesday morning.
The repeated oil spills that considerably damaged the environment and affected people’s health further deepened the communities’ frustrations.
In a statement by the group’s spokesperson, “Gen” Sibiri Taiowoh Wednesday, who threatened to continue the attack on oil facilities until the $16billion Export Processing Zone (EPZ) project as well as the Federal Maritime University established by former President Goodluck Jonathan are completed and start operations.
As reported by Reuters, citing sources close to the matter, the Trans Niger Pipeline was shut down on Wednesday following an oil leakage.
President Muhammadu Buhari has extended a multi-million dollar amnesty signed with militants in 2009 but upset them by ending generous pipeline protection contracts.
“We are developing a document basically dealing with our relationship for oil producing states, so we can find a direct link between what we do and the oil that we produce”.
