Military families to Trump: Apologize for comments to Khans
Donald Trump drew direct criticism from a leading Republican on Monday for upbraiding the Muslim American parents of an Army soldier killed in Iraq in 2004.

Prominent Republicans spoke out Monday against Trump.
Her statement reads, “As the military wife of a colonel who has served 32 years in the Air Force, I sympathize with the Khans for the loss of their son, an American hero who sacrificed his life for our country…”
Yet he’s repeatedly made inflammatory statements at little apparent political cost – and sometimes to his benefit – going back to the beginning of the campaign when he challenged the heroism of McCain, a prisoner of war in Vietnam, and branded Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals.
“You have sacrificed nothing and no one”, Khizr Khan said to Trump. His sacrifice and that of Khizr and Ghazala Khan should always be honored. “And every person who has ever died fighting for our country and their families are heroes”, Lewandowski said on CNN, which employs him as a paid contributor. “I will gladly lend you my copy”, Mr Khan said, amid cheers. Khizr Khan did strongly criticism Trump during the convention and after, and his wife has joined in since then.
Rubio, who supports Trump’s presidential campaign against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton despite some major policy disagreements with Trump, was more circumspect. “My religion teaches me that all human beings are equal in God’s eyes”.
Near the end of the interview, when Rivera asked Rubio if he is still voting for Trump, he responded yes.
After the heartfelt speech by Khan, Donald Trump took to Twitter, condemning the father for his speech and making fun of Mrs. Khan, by saying she was probably not allowed to speak because she was Muslim.
In his statement, Senator McCain recalled how Humayun Khan died, saying that when a suicide bomber aimed his vehicle towards a building housing hundreds of USA soldiers, the captain told his subordinates to stay away, then ran towards it. “Captain Khan was one such courageous example”, Ryan said.
Both Khans forcefully denounced terrorism on Sunday, and Ghazala Khan said Trump is ignorant when it comes to understanding Muslims. “I certainly think it could have been handled differently”, Brown told the Daily News. Fair enough. One can debate whether Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her party should have surrendered their stage to the Khans and their message.
WUSA9 spoke with military families and civilians, Trump supporters and opponents.
Retired Army colonel and local Congressman Chris Gibson said Monday he constantly remembers the fallen paratroopers he served with, and prays for the families who have lost loved ones to combat.
Ghazala Khan is anything but muzzled, as she soon made clear.
Trump initially told ABC that the National Football League sent him a letter complaining about the schedule, but after the NFL denied doing so, a Trump aide said the candidate heard of the conflict from “a source close to the league”.
For the second time in a week, Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, issued a statement that appeared created to put some space between the two men.
While McCain avoided the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, several speakers at the DNC defended him from Trump’s attacks.
