He said the removal of those who died will continue on Sunday and is likely to continue throughout Monday.
Speaking to the press on the evening of the accident, Superintendent Jane Derrick of Sussex Police said: “It is possible that tonight and tomorrow we are going to find more bodies at the scene”.
He added: “Sadly, as a result of our initial work at the site, which has continued overnight, and inquiries following calls to the emergency services from anxious families and friends, we have now identified 11 people who we are treating as highly likely to have died in this tragedy”.
Also in the United Kingdom, a pilot was killed at a show in the north of the country when his plane came down in front of hundreds of horrified spectators and, in Russian Federation, a helicopter gunship crashed at a military air show, killing one and injuring another.
Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said: “The thoughts and prayers of everybody at the club are with Matt and Jacob’s family and friends at this shocking time”.
Shoreham Air Show said on Twitter there had been a “major incident” and that emergency services were responding.
The pilot of the plane remains in a critical condition in a Sussex hospital.
Mr Jones’ death was confirmed on social media by his sister Becky Jones, who said: “Thank you to everyone who has messaged me”.
A police spokeswoman said she was unable to comment on the report.
Mr Barry also warned that the death toll could rise further still.
The Hawker Hunter was first introduced into the Royal Air Force in the early 1950s and was a staple in the branch for years.
Police said that no one who had been attending the airshow had been hurt in the accident.
Senior operations manager, Chris Stamp said: “Firstly our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones at this incident today”.
Specialist recovery teams have now begun to move bodies away from the scene of the crash. “And he flew straight into the ground either on or very close to the A27, which runs past the airport”, Jones said.
The road was closed in both directions Saturday.
“Within seconds we were thinking, ‘gosh, that plane is going rather low”.
A young personal trainer and two Worthing United FC players have been named as the first victims of the tragic Shoreham Airshow crash.
