Military spokesman: Iraqi forces take control over last ISIS stronghold in Ramadi

Ramadi, the capital of the Anbar province, was seized by IS militants in May after about a week of fighting with the governmental forces. The Islamic State group has declared a self-styled caliphate on the territory under its control.

They retook the oil refining town of Beiji in October and in November, Iraqi Kurdish forces drove the Sunni Muslim extremist group out of the strategic city of Sinjar.
