Miller, who is from Highgate Hill, represented Queensland in below 20s water polo.

“He has struggled bravely in the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Brisbane Hospital and our family and many close friends have been by his side since the incident”.

On Monday Queensland Police confirmed that Mr Miller died from the serious head injuries inflicted during the attack.

Kiwi Daniel Jermaine Lee Maxwell, 21, has been charged in relation to the assault on Mr Miller.

The promising water polo player was allegedly struck in a random, unprovoked attack in Fortitude Valley’s Chinatown Mall early on Sunday morning.

21-year-old Armstrong Renata appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm of Mr Miller.

The Courier Mail reported that he was surrounded by family and friends when his life support was turned off.

Renata is a New Zealander who went to Manurewa High School according to his Facebook page and now resides in Brisbane.

Mr Miller, the younger brother of Australian water polo player Billy Miller, was out with a friend during a break in training, before a national competition in Adelaide this week.

“Today we are mourning the loss of a fine young man”, the Brisbane Barracudas said in a statement.

‘He was a young man who had been out for a night in the town, hadn’t caused any issue or any concerns he was walking through the mall with the intent to catch a cab, ‘ said Detective Tom Armitt.

He described the teenager’s death as “absolutely tragic”.

“People have to be reminded they are responsible for thier actions”, he said.
