Miller woken by Mad Max Oscar news

Perhaps its because Mad Max: Fury Road received a few Oscar nominations, but the consensus is that George Miller’s quotes about not returning for future films was taken out of context.

“I was in NY and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review”, Miller said.

Consequently, Miller addressed a recent headline-making statement regarding the Mad Max films in which he claimed, “I won’t do those anymore”.

On the quote that he wouldn’t make any more Mad Max: “That was a completely garbled interview”.

Three of this year’s Best Picture nominees are among the highest-grossing movies of the year: “The Martian”, “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Bridge of Spies”, ranked No. 8, No. 20 and No. 42 respectively on 2015’s list. Though its “Mad Max” predecessors had sold lots of tickets on reasonable budgets, none had been nominated for Oscars-and often-tired sequels seldom won awards anyway. “‘Fury Road’ was forever getting completed”. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. There are so many other directors out there. While the narrative unfolds through the eyes of her son, their stories are so emotionally and dramatically intertwined that it’s impossible not to view this as her story as much his.

“Fury Road” stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, but also a dusty expanse that’s endless.

“By the time I girded my loins and thought, ‘Okay, that’s what’s going to happen and let’s make it work, ‘” he recalls, “George got up in a meeting one morning said, ‘We’re not going 3D, we’re going 2D'”.

“Even the cats are up running around so we might have a cup of tea and then get back to bed”, laughed Miller around 2am today, when asked about his plans for the rest of the night.
