Millions Viewers Watch The Wiz Live!, Black Twitter Thoroughly Approves
279,363 people sent 1.64 million tweets about “The Wiz Live!”, which were seen by 6.37 million people a total of 128.95 million times. But will the TV cast be included in the new production?

The Wiz Live! was also a major success on social media. Celebrities are raving about her performance in the show.
It’s NBC’s second-best non-sports Thursday in six years since April 2, 2009 (14.496 million the night of the “ER” series finale), trailing over that span only 2013’s “The Sound of Music Live!” Check out some of the best memes from the night. NBC’s telecast of The Wiz Live! garnered 11.14 million viewers compared to the previous year’s 9.13 million for Peter Pan Live!, Deadline reports.
The hyper-color musical offered many sensational moments during the broadcast. I think these live musicals are great family viewing (except for those darn poppies) and I look forward to what NBC produces next. NBC’s third annual live musical production was up 21 and 38 percent from what last year’s Peter Pan Live! averaged, while shy of what The Sound of Music Live! There was much online discussion about “The Wiz” having an all-black cast from people who may have been unaware that the 1970s-era musical and movie had a black cast, too.
NBC is going back down the yellow brick road.

And NBC has a variety of others ways to make even more money off “The Wiz”: The cast recording goes on sale December 11, with a DVD following shortly thereafter, and the network has already scheduled an encore airing December 19.
