Mills Named Hall of Fame Semifinalist

Former San Diego Chargers head coach Don Coryell, popularly known as “Air”, has been named a semifinalist among 25 NFL figures for the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Coryell has been chosen as a Hall of Fame nominee for the eighth time, according to the official Chargers website.

Former Vikings defensive coordinator and Gophers quarterback Tony Dungy also is on the list.

Worth noting: Eleven men have won Super Bowl and NFL MVP awards. Davis and fellow nominee Kurt Warner are the notable exceptions to this.

Davis’ problem is a short career span, even though he had a stretch where he was clearly the best at what he did.

Wide receivers have recently had to wait their turn for Canton and Harrison certainly has, despite Hall of Fame type numbers. He was a finalist previous year and was reportedly among the final 10, but didn’t quite make the final cut. The former Leesville High School standout was an eight-time Pro Bowler and eight-time All-Pro.

To be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a nominated player or coach must not have participated as an active player or coach for five consecutive seasons.

Greene went to five Pro Bowls, earned All-Pro selection in 1994 and 1996 and, with Derrick Thomas and Junior Seau, is a linebacker on the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade team for the 1990s.

Lynch played 11 of his 15 National Football League season with the Bucs, from 1993 to 2003. Greene is now clearly the best pass rusher in this year’s class and one would think that at some point he’ll finally get the call. He was a finalist past year and given the underrepresentation of safeties, could have some momentum for induction.
