Milner: Liverpool focused on silverware, not the Champions League

“We’ve got to two cup finals this year and unfortunately we’ve had a losing experience (against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup) but we can turn that around and end the season successfully”.

“The positive effect of winning the trophy is getting a Champions League spot but the squad are focused on the trophy”.

“As I said before we hit the post on a few occasions so it is really important we win the Europa League”.

He was left out by Pellegrini for the League Cup semi-finals and final in 2014 after starting in every other round, and missed out on the title-winning victory against West Ham on the last day of that season.

“Obviously, the Champions League is a nice bonus and where this club wants to be ultimately, but I’m desperate to add to the list of trophies that have been won at this football club”. Most probably don’t show as much emotion and he says things that maybe a lot of managers think, but won’t say.

“You don’t win trophies as individuals, you win them as a team”.

“That’s why I came here, it’s why all the boys are here”.

“The Europa League is such a hard trophy to win”.

James Milner thinks the biggest difference between Liverpool and Manchester City is the Reds’ bigger fan base. “That’s the good thing – what you see is what you get”.

“I’d love to start that wave of success again and be part of that with Liverpool”, Milner said.

But he had also been omitted by Mancini in the 2011 FA Cup final, and was on the bench as the Blues dramatically beat QPR on the last day in 2012.

“Obviously in football things take time to bear fruit.it’s just been six months since he arrived at the club and it’s the second final we’re going to play”.

The players in red were understandably devastated at the final whistle, as were the thousands of Scouse fans in the stands who had travelled in great numbers for what they hoped would be a night of glory. Winning it, especially considering the teams we’ve beaten, will give us great confidence to go on and have more success over the coming years.

“Recently we have seen all the attacking players doing well scoring and creating chances so any of the attacking players can score to help us win the trophy”.

“For me Hendo is captain so I think he should be the one to lift it”, he added. You walk into the reception at Melwood and all the honours are listed there. “It’s all about winning that trophy”.

“It is a massive club which is used to wining trophies and I wanted to come here and add to that”.
