Milner, Rose Score As Tottenham, Liverpool Draw

Liverpool’s James Milner, right, celebrates with his teammate Sadio Mane after scoring a penalty during the English Premier League soccer match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at White Hart Lane in London, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016.

James Milner, playing as a converted left back in place of the unreliable Alberto Moreno, dispatched the penalty with aplomb to put the Reds one up in the 43rd minute. Simon Mignolet saved our lives then, now he had one brilliant save.

“I’m very pleased”, said Pochettino of his team’s overall performance.

This most obvious takeaway from Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham is that the mood would’ve felt a whole lot better had the boys from Merseyside not just lost to Burnley in an anemic, toothless display a week prior.

“Our first real mistake and they score”. Michel Vorm saved them a few times. It was a wonderful goal.

Mauricio Pochettino has condemned the football calendar again as “crazy” as he prepares to say goodbye to most of his Tottenham first team squad for another global break. “We decided that Milly can play (there), especially with the style of play we think we should play”, said the German. Mauricio Pochettino’s side unsurprisingly started the match strongly, looking to build some early season momentum and prove that the encouraging progress shown past year was not an aberration.

“It seems a long time since we played at Anfield, it has been a tough start”. Without the rigors of a European campaign, Liverpool may have an edge this season but this clash showed there’s nothing between these two teams who not only have top four aspirations but dream of winning the title.

Before then Mane was booked and was lucky to escape a second yellow later in the first half for a foul on Rose. “I think Spurs will have too much for them going forward”, the former Arsenal player told Sky Sports. We showed character today.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half, but Adam Lallana was flagged for offside in the build-up to the goal. It’s not easy when you play a team that are flawless on the counter-attack and you need to take risks. Following this result, Spurs earn five points from three games, while the Reds record a win, a loss and a draw from their three games this season so far.
