Milwaukee Bucks hand Warriors first loss of the season

Greg Monroe scored 28 points in a 108-95 win. Of the next 12 games for Golden State, only three are against teams with winning records (Cavaliers, Mavericks, Hornets).

In the past 25 seasons, the NBA’s last undefeated team went on to win the title on nine different occasions, including last season’s Warriors, who went five games before suffering their first defeat. Once Luke Walton substituted his stars and conceded a loss late Saturday, Stephen Curry came to the bench with a smirk, nodding his head.

The Bucks also stopped the Lakers’ winning steak in 1972. And it boiled over as they stubbornly kept refusing to lose. “That’s why it’s so hard to do what these guys have done so far”. “Now we won’t get caught up in watching people talk about us, reading about who will beat the Warriors”, Green said. They move to 24-1 and play the Phoenix Suns next on Wednesday.

Golden State’s 28-game winning streak, counting the final four games of last season, came to a halt.

“Well, we knew the streak had to end at some point”, the Warriors posted on their Twitter account.

Monroe turned Green into a puddle, and the Bucks were able to milk clock and still end most of their possessions with efficient looks.

The Bucks improved to just 10-15 on the season as they sit in last in the Central Division. So we feel comfortable with him going against another good [forward] in Draymond Green.

Australia’s Andrew Bogut bagged just two points for the Warriors to go with six rebounds and four blocks.

Friday night the Warriors needed double overtime to beat the Boston Celtics 124-119. They had confidence. Any time you give a team confidence that can happen. “We wanted to come out with a lot of effort and energy”. It has been 2 1/2 weeks since they set the record for the best start in history at 16-0.

Point guard Michael Carter-Williams also had 11 in the final quarter, including an exclamation point dunk with 32 seconds to play. We can’t just worry about winning games, but winning every day.

“We have a very flexible team”, Mayo said. “We got some stops, but for 48 minutes, I don’t think anybody can say we played as hard as they did”. The Bucks weren’t afraid to run at Golden State’s preferred tempo – the game’s pace was a blazing 104.46 – and it played to their advantage. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple double, seemed to be everywhere on both sides of the court, and held opponents to 33% shooting at the rim as a defender (a Reddit user points out that Antetokounmpo was actually miscredited for two extra assists).

Golden State will be without forward Harrison Barnes, who will miss his eighth consecutive game with a sprained left ankle. It was just the fourth time this season that Golden State trailed at the half.

Perhaps promisingly, another obscure fact that started at Reddit began making the rounds after the Warriors lost.

“Not from me. Losing sucks”.

Green was one of the most efficient shooters for Golden State, hitting 9 of 14 shots and scoring 24 points while adding 11 rebounds.
