Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has also ordered that Sherman Park, near the center of the violence, be closed at 6 p.m. rather than its usual 10 p.m.

“Those individuals, in my mind, are deliberately trying to damage a great neighborhood in a great city”, Barrett said at a news conference Monday. The city’s usual summer curfew for teenagers younger than 17 has been 11 p.m.

Relatives and friends from the Sherman Park neighborhood also confirmed that Heaggan and Smith knew each other.

CNN reports the 18-year-old man was struck in the neck and has been hospitalized.

Milwaukee police are aware of threats on social media, against both the officer and police in general, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said Sunday. The shooting is being investigated by the state.

Another officer’s “riot helmet received a graze wound to the back of it, probably from a firearm”, Mr Flynn said, adding that the officer had not suffered serious injuries.

Because the audio from the video was delayed, the police chief said, it was unclear when the officer fired his weapon.

A handful of Milwaukee’s Black Panthers say they want to meet with city leaders about violence on the city’s north side following the shooting of a black man by police. Flynn said the man “doesn’t seem to be in medical danger”.

There was “no major arson or property damage”, police chief Ed Flynn said in an update just before midnight, NBC News reported.

Milwaukee’s mayor says a 10 p.m. curfew on teenagers will from now on be strictly enforced.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who saw a still photo from the video, said he thinks it should be released.

An 18-year-old man was shot and wounded during Sunday night’s unrest, which was milder and far less destructive than Saturday night’s confrontation but still left the city tense.

The city was calmer on Monday evening after two nights of unrest. “It doesn’t matter to them if what the authorities are saying is true”. Smith also had a lengthy arrest record, officials said.

Cecil Brewer, 67, who owns an apartment house directly across from the intersection where protesters burned a gas station Saturday night and hurled rocks at law enforcement Sunday night, said the rioting was all but inevitable.

The sister of a black man shot to death by a Milwaukee police officer says the two men knew each other from high school.

Barrett has urged state officials to release video of Smith’s shooting as soon as possible in hopes that it would corroborate the police department’s account and convince protesters the use of deadly force was justified.
