Milwaukee shooting: Curfew imposed in hopes of restoring calm
Police said one person was shot at a Milwaukee protest on Sunday evening and officers used an armored vehicle to retrieve the injured victim during a second night of unrest over the police shooting of a black man, but there was no repeat of widespread destruction of property.

The department said in a statement Tuesday it has noticed a “disturbing national trend” in which social media users have identified officers involved in fatal shootings and threatened them and their families.
Sgt. Timothy Gauerke, a Milwaukee police spokesman, said he was familiar with reports that the men attended the same high school and knew each other but could not confirm them.
Demonstrations also unfolded after 32-year-old Philando Castile was shot and killed in suburban St. Paul, Minnesota, during a traffic stop by a Latino police officer.
Flynn said that while police came under fire Sunday night, “none of our officers returned fire”.
Sylville Smith was shot Saturday afternoon by a black police officer, and violence broke out on the city’s largely black north side.
Milwaukee is the latest American city to be gripped by violence in response to police killings of black men following social outbursts in places such as Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014 and Baltimore previous year.
Mrs Clinton had said Monday the Milwaukee protests showed that the nation had “urgent work to do to rebuild trust between police and communities” and said “everyone should have respect for the law and be respected by the law”. The mayor and police chief say body-camera video shows Smith had the gun in hand and had turned toward the officer when he was shot. “I want to make sure we don’t lose any police officers in this community, either”.
“After 10 o’clock your teenagers better be home or in a place where they’re off the streets”, Barrett told the city’s residents. The police chief said he wasn’t sure what prompted the stop but described Smith’s vehicle as “behaving suspiciously”.
The death angered residents, as it echoes a series of deadly police incidents involving mainly African American suspects.
Police posted on Twitter three locations where they said shots were fired.
Barrett said Smith had “more firepower than the officer” and his handgun – which he is said to have refused to drop – was loaded with 23 rounds. The high school now has about 1,500 students.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said that the officer was wearing a body camera during the altercation and that the video will be made public “at the appropriate time”.
The violence over the weekend had prompted Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to declare a state of emergency on Sunday.
The department also tweeted Tuesday that only one shot was sacked, which is far fewer than the previous two nights.
The businesses that burned included a BMO Harris branch, a BP gas station, an O’Reilly Auto Parts store and a beauty supply store.
Despite all this unrest happening in the city there are still men and women ready to join the ranks of the Milwaukee Police Department in effort to keep the community safe.
Protesters march during disturbances following the police shooting of a man in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Aug. 14, 2016.
Police Chief Edward Flynn said at a press conference on Sunday that the man whose death touched off Saturday night’s rioting was shot after he turned toward an officer with a gun in his hand.

In the weekend clashes, cars and businesses were set on fire, and gunshots, rocks and bottles were aimed at police.
