Earlier on Sunday, the Wisconsin National Guard was activated, and 125 personnel were sent to the city.

One police officer was hospitalized after a rock smashed a patrol vehicle windshield, the department said.
Police said three people were arrested during the unrest, and one officer was hurt by a brick thrown into a squad vehicle. Seven officers were injured, he said.
According to the New York Daily News, an unnamed 18-year-old was in serious condition Monday morning after being hit by a bullet on the second night of demonstrations and civil unrest following Smith’s killing.
The destruction of private property in Milwaukee over the weekend has been unnecessary, counterproductive, and appalling. He said a man who was one of the people fleeing was armed with a handgun and was shot by an officer during the pursuit. Police did not say who shot him, but that they are looking for suspects. It was unclear how many rounds the officer fired. Flynn said this was not true.

Earlier Sunday evening, family and friends of Smith held a candlelight vigil at the site of the shooting.
“A young man lost his life yesterday afternoon”, the mayor said.
Flynn said publicly that the Chicago activists representing the Revolutionary Communist Party are the ones who “started to cause problems” Sunday night, the Chicago Tribune and others reported.

On Saturday night, protesters filled the streets in the neighborhood where the shooting happened and were met by officers in riot gear. Online court records showed a range of offences that were mostly misdemeanors.
It’s not the specific shooting of Smith that has the tension between police and the African-American community on edge. “You can’t tell when the officer discharges his firearm”.
A police spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the condition of the person who was shot Sunday night.
The officer involved in the shooting-a 24-year-old who has been with the police department for six years, three of which as an officer-has yet to be identified. The black unemployment rate in Milwaukee County is about 20 percent, almost three times more than the rate for whites.
In Louisiana, where 37-year-old Alton Sterling was shot in July during a struggle with two white police officers, protests largely dissipated after three law enforcement officers were killed in a shooting spree that officials said appeared to target police.

In December, the US Justice Department announced it would work with Milwaukee police on changes.
