Minimum wage protest comes to Naples
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced that he will put into action his plan to unilaterally make $15 an hour the minimum wage for all state workers by 2021. At the moment, only cities have passed the $15 minimum wage.

“I believe that if you work hard and work full time, you should not be condemned to live in poverty”.
Miner, who increased the minimum wage to $15 for Syracuse municipal workers last month, said she has heard from elected officials in NY and beyond who are interested in doing the same.
Cuomo has already enacted a $15 minimum wage for fast-food workers.
Citing a recent survey by NELP that showed 65 percent of low-wage workers – groups that represents 48 million potential voters – “would be more likely to vote in the coming presidential race if a candidate supported a $15 minimum wage and unionization”, Lathrop said.
New York’s current minimum wage is $8.75.
It is apparently within these workers’ rights to strike for one day, if it’s in an effort to get better wages or to organize.
Workers in almost 300 cities protested at numerous restaurants.
The fight for a higher minimum wage is in Orlando Tuesday.
“Whether it’s fast food, Walmart, child care, T-Mobile, all these people are paid too little to support their families”, Angela Simler, an employee at a T-Mobile call center in Wichita, Kansas, told The Huffington Post.
Opponents of the wage increases, including many business groups, have argued that the raises will force companies to lay off workers or boost the prices of goods and services to meet the increased costs.
Cuomo said NY would “lead by example” and establish a public-sector minimum wage.
Cuomo’s announcement Tuesday came on a national day of action in cities across the country.
“They may not even have to raise it”, said Dempsey. These workers are our brothers and sisters and what benefits them, ultimately benefits all of us. Members and supporters of the Local 1199 SEIU gathered outside Poughkeepsie’s McDonald’s on Main Street, where they started their push back in April, to declare to the public that anything less than $15 per hour is not a livable wage by today’s standards.
“If we continue to step out and support each other, we’re going to get ours”, she said.

“I stand with the thousands of workers on strike today to demand $15 and a union”, Bernie Sanders tweeted.
