It only used homes listed by Coldwell Banker and a few cities were excluded because they did not have at least 10 listings. The most expensive home market in America is Newport Beach, in southern California’s Orange County. The survey looked only at four bedroom/two bathroom homes because it wanted to provide an apples-to-apples comparison of homes in different cities for relocating employees, and that was a typical size for managers, a spokesman said. “We see that 45 percent of the most affordable markets are in the Midwestern states”. Newport Beach is renowned for its exclusive dining, shopping and culture as well as for its picturesque beaches and has everything required for those looking for a luxury lifestyle.

These days, if you’re going to San Francisco be sure to bring more than flowers in your hair-seven of the eight most expensive cities to buy a house in the USA are all in the Bay Area. Annapolis came in third with a listing price averaging $587,252.

The report based its average list price on four-bedroom, two-bath homes.
