Minnesota Republicans still buzzing about Cruz

Come January, Cruz will drive them so bonkers that Republicans, even many Trump supporters today, won’t be able to stop themselves from coming back around to him. “Good news is that Melania’s speech got more publicity than any in the history of politics especially if you believe that all press is good press”, he tweeted on Wednesday, when the controversy over copied portions of his wife’s speech was still swirling. “Last night, Cruz showed that he’s earned a leading role in the nation’s political future”.

Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort told reporters that Cruz is “in violation” of his pledge to support the nominee.

In response to Ted Cruz’s RNC convention speech on Wednesday evening, failed VP candidate and failed Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin declared that Ted Cruz’s actions signaled the end of his career.

Someone in the crowd asked if Cruz would vote for Trump.

“Not one speaker said their names”, I noted.

Hymas, who directs the Jackson Hole tea party and produces educational materials about the U.S. Constitution, said he’s glad Cruz stuck to his principles despite the reaction to his speech.

Trump also made suggestions that Cruz’s father had indirect links to John F. Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Trump also criticized the appearance of Cruz’s wife, Heidi.

It’s made for something that the media craves: an unfolding story, which seems to swing from one broadcast and cable interview to the next, as Trump campaign officials, political pundits and elected officials just seem to build the storyline. I think it would be helpful if he did.

The convention kicked off on July 18 with the theme “make America safe again”, with speeches by Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke and former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Christie endorsed Trump shortly after ending his own presidential bid and now heads his transition team.

Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, will introduce the candidate. He and Trump represent an odd pair, with Pence serving as the conventional counterpoint to Trump’s stream of surprises.

Poised and polished, Ivanka is considered the campaign’s “secret weapon”.

Cruz halted his campaign two months ago, having outlasted all but Trump in a field that once numbered 17 candidates.

Cruz’s rebellion may help position him for a second candidacy in 2020 in the event Trump loses.

“Only Sen. Cruz chose to slip away…and frankly he was the only speech of the convention that was poorly received by the body in the hall”.

Cruz had urged, during his convention speech, voters to not stay home, but to “stand and speak and vote your conscience”.

Speaking after Cruz, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tried to do damage control.

He continued to decline to say whether he would vote for the GOP presidential nominee.

Pence framed the November presidential race as crucial to defining the makeup of the Supreme Court for the next 40 years. The criticism from Trump of his wife, Heidi, crossed a line he said. Fortunately for him, as the last three days-to say nothing of the last year-has demonstrated, his party is so messed up right now that being the most hated man in the GOP isn’t a bad person to be. He joked that Trump is charismatic and must have been looking for balance in choosing him.

After Ingraham, the delegates saw a live performance by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (posed in front of a backdrop depicting a field, a fence and a barn but lacking a soundtrack of mooing cows).

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., addresses the delegates during the third day session of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

Trump has called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States”. He said his father is the one candidate for president “who does not need this job”. It was the most turbulent protest since the four-day convention began Monday.
