First and foremost is the battle for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy against Iowa on Saturday.

MINNEAPOLIS The University of Minnesota signed interim football coach Tracy Claeys to a three-year deal Wednesday, a move that had been widely expected since Claeys stepped in when Jerry Kill retired suddenly for health reasons.
“I’ve gotten to know and respect Coach Claeys this past year and watched him work with our student-athletes each and every day”. “You just can’t do it all the time”.
By hiring Claeys, Minnesota will be able to maintain the continuity and momentum that Kill established since arriving in 2011.
University of Minnesota interim head football coach Tracy Claeys answered questions from reporters following the retirement of Coach Jerry Kill on October 28, 2015.
It will no doubt be a hard test. But it is a test Claeys and his team should be ready to tackle as he steps into the head coaching spotlight. He is set to make $1.4 million next year with $100,000 added each year for the following two years. Claeys joined Kill’s staff at Saginaw Valley State in 1995 and joined him as defensive coordinator at Emporia State, Southern IL and Northern IL, totaling 21 years as one of Kill’s assistants.
Claeys circled mid-November on his calendar because recruiting ramps up in December. The challenge now will be to sustain success as head coach using the formula established by Kill: a hard-nosed team that plays sound defense and can run the ball. Last weekend, the Gophers played then-No.
The have 17 players, including three four-star recruits, in their 2016 class. Their class is nationally ranked No. 37 by Rivals and 247 Sports and No. 37 by Scout. Claeys was anointed the interim coach, a role he had filled in the past when Kill had to miss time dealing with his health.
That has become Claeys’ calling card.
Minnesota allowed 380 points in 2011 and 321 points in 2012.
The Golden Gophers have three games remaining in their schedule and will likely need to win all three to make a bowl game this season.
