Minnesota Twins Honoring Jacob Wetterling

Twins officials said Cleveland players will also wear the patch in support of Jacob. The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center (JWRC) was founded to educate and assist families and communities to address and prevent the exploitation of children. His family has encouraged people to use the number and jerseys as symbols of hope in honor of the boy.

The resource center, working with Jacob’s mother Patty Wetterling, put out a list of 11 ideas (Jacob, a big sports fan, wore No. 11) for people who wanted to commit to “a culture of kindness and compassion”.

A tribute to Jacob’s life, an outfield wall graphic, will remain at Target Field for the rest of the 2016 season. “Our hearts were touched by a request from children to honor Jacob in this way”, she said.

Fans can go here to bid on the jerseys. On Thursday, they posted some of the photos they’d received to Facebook. Heinrich confessed Tuesday to abducting and killing 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling almost 27 years ago, recounting a crime that long haunted the state with details that included Jacob asking right after he was taken: “What did I do wrong?”

As part of the deal, which Jacob’s family approved, prosecutors insisted that Heinrich lead them to the boy’s remains.
