Doctors on Thursday morning successfully repaired the lateral meniscus in Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s right knee, the team announced in Minnesota.

Peterson, who was injured Sunday, told ESPN on Wednesday that he had a “bucket handle tear” of the meniscus, which typically has a minimum recovery time of three to four months.
Peterson, 31, had struggled to break through the Tennesee and Green Bay defences in his first two games of the season and was hurt late in the week two win over the Packers.

“(I’m) doing it with faith and optimism”, Peterson told ESPN of the procedure. It’ll take time but I’ll get it. The Vikings will try and fill Peterson’s spot with production from Jerick McKinnon, Matt Asiata and Ronnie Hillman.

Peterson’s surgeon will decide on the operating table whether to trim or fix AP’s torn meniscus, Zimmer said. He led the league in rushing again last season after missing all but one game of the 2014 season while on what amounted to paid leave as he faced legal troubles.
He was originally signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted rookie out of Purdue past year. “They’re tough. They’re competitive”.
The Panthers (1-1) also are turning to a new starting running back, so the teams are even that regard.

“They’ve got a lot of young talent here, and even with the injuries, they still have a lot of talent”, Hillman said.
