Minnesota Wild Assistant Coach Arrested on Drunk Driving Charge with 12-Year

Darryl Sydor, an assistant coach for the Minnesota Wild, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Thursday.

Officers saw a Ford Explorer making wide, sweeping turns, and almost striking an oncoming vehicle. At that time, police pulled Sydor over and noticed he was intoxicated.

Sydor, a former NHL defenseman, was driving his 12-year-old son to a hockey game when stopped.

Monsrud said Sydor failed a field sobriety test and displayed slow and slurred speech. He also appeared to have difficulty producing his driver’s licence.

At one point during the stop, Sydor turned to his son and told him, “I’m sorry”, according to the complaint.

KSTP reports Sydor was arrested in Fridley, on Highway 65 and Medtronic Boulevard. 247 of a breathalyzer.

At the Fridley Police Department, Sydor agreed to a Datamaster test, which said Sydor’s alcohol concentration was 0.30 at 6:18 p.m.

An officer drove Sydor’s son to his hockey tournament and the boy’s mother, who was travelling in Canada, made arrangements to have him cared for.

Sydor remained in the Anoka County Jail on Friday pending an afternoon court appearance.

Sydor has worked as an assistant coach for the Wild the past four seasons.

The Minnesota Wild issued a statement Friday simply stating they’re aware of the reports and are working to gather more information. Death can start coming into play at a.37, so that’s where Sydor was allegedly at the time of his arrest. He won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.
