Minnesota Wild to use Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ as new goal song

The idea for this changed first spawned after the death of Prince in April, when the team changed its goal song to “Let’s Go Crazy” in a playoff game against the Dallas Stars to honor the artist and his life. The survey was sent to all Minnesota Wild season ticket and partial plan holders, who voted almost 2-to-1 in favor of the change.

The Wild made it official this summer that next season, the team will make Prince’s hit “Let’s Go Crazy” their official goal song for the entire year. Fans voted their passion and now “Let’s Go Crazy” will double as the funeral dirge for Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” (though that song is still used by other National Hockey League clubs as their goal song).

Fans loved it, and now the team has heard their cries for more.

Hopefully in the next year, Wild fans will be going insane over winning the Stanley Cup, but who knows, perhaps they’ll be crying in the purple rain instead.

“It’s our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world”, wild VP John Maher said in a statement released by the team.

While it was only going to be used for that game, the response to the song was so strong that the team had to at least consider making the change permanent. “Let’s Go Crazy” is also a major upgrade from the nondescript, jock jam-like “Crowd Chant”. It checks a lot of boxes, on top of it being performed by a local icon.
