Meanwhile Mark Sanderson, the deputy chairman of Worthing United, admitted that his Club was struggling to cope with news of the tragedy.

“I also got to know Jacob as one of the REMF squad, during the coaching sessions we held leading up to this year’s charity match against Crystal Palace”.

It is the second fatal crash at the Shoreham Airshow in recent years after James Bond stuntman Brian Brown died in September 2007.

Newcastle United’s under-21 fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion has been postponed following the Shoreham air disaster.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister sends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the people who were so tragically killed after a jet crashed into several vehicles in West Sussex”.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry, of Sussex Police, said at a press conference yesterday: “Sadly, as a result of our initial work at the site, which has continued overnight, and inquiries following calls to the emergency services from anxious families and friends, we have now identified 11 people who we are treating as highly likely to have died in this tragedy”.

TWO Worthing United players attended a special church service this morning to pay their respects.

“However, we do not expect that figure to be greater than 20, probably fewer”, he said.

Investigators will also look at the pilot’s health records, maintenance of the aircraft and any previous problems with the plane, he said.

Among those confirmed dead were Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, both 23, travelling together on their way to play in a soccer match.

Silence will fall over the region’s football stadiums at tonight’s Capital One Cup games as clubs remember those killed in the weekend’s jet crash in Shoreham.

Sidley United FC wrote on Twitter: “Thoughts with all @WorthingUtdFC after the loss of 2 players in the air crash yesterday”.

Royal Air Forces Association secretary general Nick Bunting said their thoughts were with those affected by the accident and it was “too early to speculate” about the future of the event.

Specialist recovery teams have begun to remove bodies from the scene with “every possibility that other victims will be found” during the process, Sussex Police said.
