‘Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’ is overdue poetry in motion
She’s agile, able to leap across huge distances and contort her form to get to any place in the city that she likes. The story this time around is a bit more fleshed out, though it has an abrupt ending, which, given the constraints placed upon the team due to the story of the original Mirror’s Edge, is the best we could hope for. My favorite sections of the game are the grid node puzzles, which are the purest platforming brain teasers the game has to offer. Rather than fire guns, this Faith Connors deals only in brutal, physical combat that devastates her enemies.

The City of Glass’ security forces are usually nonlethally armed. She also has a few gadgets at her disposal. If another Mirror’s Edge comes our way eight years from now, hopefully its designers will look back to the original game for inspiration and avoid the urge to fill it full of videogame clutter. However, this can cause a few problems, as the game will not always recognize exactly what movement you want to perform. Once you have found all Mirror’s Edge Document and Surveillance Recordings found in the game, you will unlock Story Teller Achievement/Trophy for 35 Gamerscore. Instead we’re stuck posting a PSA, because this game is pretty broken in one very specific way.
We’re starting to get a little frustrated with EA over this brazen assault on the PC enthusiast culture.
If DICE fumbles in its attempts at combat, it’s at least on surer footing elsewhere, and for all the city’s faults it’s salvaged by its smart, frictionless online that allows players to create and compete in their own time trials. The graphics are getting a noticeable bump, but that’s what happens when you wait nearly a decade to follow up a game. That goes double for anyone thinking about purchasing the game’s collector’s edition, which is certainly going to be in short supply on launch day.
Seems as though while Mirror’s Edge isn’t back with a vengeance, it is back. Are you excited to once again assume the role of Faith? There’s a wanted system whereby you must escape the sights of the city’s law enforcement, but it’s fuzzy and fussy. In nearly every situation, there are multiple ways to tackle a certain area based on your own skill level and the equipment you’ve acquired so far. Unfortunately, it’s got all the charm and personality of a second-string airport, where bland spaces meld into each other in one forgettable, unremarkable whole. The movement is smooth, as is the framerate on the Xbox One version. Our review is based on the PS4 version. Remember that if you order digital, there are no refunds. The companion app will tie into this, showing you where your friends are in the city, and telling you when your times have been beaten.
“DICE may have failed to address all of the problems of its predecessor, but it completely re-captured what Mirror’s Edge was all about”. It was the type of fluid experience that no other game could have ever provided at the time. Acting as both a reimagining and a prequel to the original 2008 title, there is clearly a more focused shift towards flushing out the world and characters. You can also upgrade Faith’s “Disrupt” ability – which temporarily stuns groups of enemies – in the Gear tree, but that’s a lesser concern until later in the game. Many of Wal-Mart’s stores stay open all night.
Moreover, the conversation in “Mirror’s Edge Catalyst” looks a little off with its cheesy lines. Of course all of the plot twists are as easy to see as the massive white towers that dot the game’s skyline, so none of those revelations would be that big or dramatic even if they were accentuated in a cut-scene. When the game’s developer, DICE, revealed that Catalyst would be an open world game, I couldn’t fathom how they world pull it off.

As a piece of open world design, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst falls entirely flat. SEE http://www.ea.com/eaaccess AND http://www.origin.com/store/origin-access FOR DETAILS. It’s nearly as if, in returning to the much-loved but flawed 2008 original, developer DICE chose to stick a little too closely to an original recipe that called for two parts awesome washed out by two parts terrible, introducing some new, even bigger problems all of its own in this troubled open world reboot. If you find yourself frequently purchasing EA’s games, that 10% discount could be very helpful.
