“While the team at No 1 spot gets the opportunity of holding the mace, the prize-money among the four top-ranked is distributed on the April 1 cut-off date each year”.

“For us, the number-one ranking is not a destination but part of a journey”. But this can’t stop Pakistan being Number One in ICC Test Rankings tonight.

With this, Pakistan’s hopes to be levitated to the Top rank in ICC Test Rankings have brightened as the sun.

Pakistan have taken over the mantle as the world’s No 1-ranked test team, after the final test between West Indies and India was abandoned as a draw as the soggy outfield remained unplayable in Trinidad.

Misbah is presently on vacation in Norway while some of his Pakistan team-mates, including ODI skipper Azhar Ali who is also the Test vice-captain, are preparing to play England in the five-match One-day worldwide series from Wednesday.

Even so, all these factors make for a poor excuse for an global Test venue to not have any cricket for three days without much rainfall and with the sun shining brightly for the last two days. “If we can achieve these on a consistent basis, then I am sure there will more laurels like this down the line”, he added. They have not lost a single series in the UAE and in the last five years, they have lost only two Test series, one to South Africa and one to Sri Lanka. “Misbah and his side deserve our heartiest congratulations”. The number-one ranking is well deserved and a testament to the quality of cricket the team has consistently played over the past few years. “The past few weeks of Test cricket have been incredibly absorbing with some high-quality competitive series being played, exhibiting what is so special about Test cricket”, the ICC Chief Executive said.

What makes Indian fans and the team more frustrated is the news that there is possibility of more showers over the next two days.

Pakistan are poised to become the top-ranked Test team with the rain-ravaged fourth and final Test between India and West Indies at Port of Spain nearly certain to end in a draw on Monday.
