Wearables company Misfit has partnered with Speedo to create a new activity tracker designed with swimmers in mind. When wearing the Speedo Shine swimmers can expect to utilize the unique technology inside the device to track things like lap counts, and Misfit states that it will be capable of working for any swimmer as it supports all types of swim strokes.
Of course, underneath the tracker is still a good old Misfit Shine, so you still get step and sleep monitoring, as well as basic tracking of running, cycling and other sports.
When you’ve dried off, there’s no need to put the Speedo Shine away until the next time you’re back into the water. Powered by a watch battery that lasts for up to 6 months of use, it does not require regular charging like most devices these days. The Speedo Shine is waterproof to 50 meters, meaning it won’t be ruined by your local pool.
Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin, who has endorsed the product, said: “One of the most hard parts of swimming for fitness is keeping track of laps and the Speedo Shine eliminates that challenge”.
With the Misfit Flash a more affordable sibling to the Shine, we’re counting the days until the cheaper swim-tracking Speedo Flash makes it to market in a cloud of teenage jokes.
While metal isn’t generally the best material to transmit through, Misfit has found a way to sync the innards here to your Android or iOS device with Bluetooth.
