Miss Arkansas Wins Miss America 2017

It was a great night for Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields as she won the Miss America Competition on Sunday. Shields also went over the time allotted to answer a question, however, it would prove to be of little outcome as she was awarded the coveted crown. After the show, Shields told reporters that she believes the presidential candidates and political parties need to start compromising. But she’s only human and said she began to make bad food choices in college, which led to bouts with health problems.

Gretchen Carlson, the 1989 Miss America and former Fox TV news anchor, made headlines recently by winning a $20 million settlement after filing a sexual harassment suit against her onetime employer.

In a July interview Ms. Shields said, “Pageant girls and women, in general, are always striving, or it’s tempting to be striving, for perfectionism”.

After being advised on how to proceed with her second major public appearance since a late-night press conference Sunday, she stood with her mother and pageant staff, reflecting on her win.

In 2014, the Miss America pageant accidentally showed a wardrobe malfunction on stage as co-host Chris Harrison walked in front of Miss Nebraska Megan Swanson. Additionally, she said that it’s always been her “secret dream” to be a backup dancer for Queen Bey.

Congratulations to Savvy Shields on becoming Miss America 2017.

She succeeded Betty Cantrell, the outgoing Miss America.
