Miss New York takes second runner-up in Miss America pageant
If you forgot to watch the Miss America pageant and would want to know the victor, then you will be glad to know that Savvy Shields’ talent earned her the title of Miss America 2017.

Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields was crowned Miss America last night but many are talking about Miss New York’s answer concerning Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Shields also went over the time allotted to answer a question, however, it would prove to be of little outcome as she was awarded the coveted crown. “And that feels so weird to say out loud”, Shields said talking to reporters after the event.
“I think he’s a bright reminder of how our country needs to come together”, she said.
Erin O’Flaherty, representing Missouri, made history this year by competing as the first openly gay contestant.
At tonight’s 2017 Pageant for Miss America, Miss Arkansas impressed the judges with her dancing talent, her ability to recover from stumbling over an on-stage question and her fashion sense with her eveningwear. She had already received a $25,000 scholarship – along with other prizes – for winning her state title.
Along with Shields, Wyatt and Sims, the top 15 was rounded out by Miss Washington, Miss Massachusetts, Miss Idaho, Miss Iowa, Miss Texas, Miss California, Miss Oklahoma, Miss Maryland, Miss Tennessee, Miss Louisiana and Miss Mississippi.
On Monday morning, she kicked off her sandals and walked across the seaside gambling resort’s shell-strewn beach to the surf line, where she ran ankle-deep in the incoming waves and jumped into the air twice.
Sunday’s finale was held on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Judges, including singer Ciara, scored contestants who ranged in age from 18 to the cut-off of 24 based on talent, the live question segment, a personal interview and appearances in gowns and swimsuits. Before Shields was crowned in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, she had to outshine 51 other contestants.
